"freedom isn't free": Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy was made for an invitational exhibition, "In Her Hands," at Robert Mann Gallery, NYC, summer 2018. The exhibition focused on combining craft materials, that define the powerful domestic history of feminine art forms, with portraits of progressive women candidates who are running in the 2018 elections. I was given Stephanie Murphy, first term congresswoman from the 7th District in Florida. An amazing woman, she is a Vietnamese immigrant whose parents fled the country when she was only six months old. Some of her photographs are integrated with similar found photos and embellished with her quotes, outlines of the three places she has lived (Vietnam, Virginia and Florida) and a drawing of her family when they first arrived in the United States. I was at Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida in May and was able to meet her and show her the piece.
